zoe sandler, AGENT

Prior to joining SJGA, Zoe spent over 11 years at ICM (now CAA), first as a royalties assistant, then after apprenticing with a literary agent, she began representing her own author clients. Zoe represents a mix of adult fiction that could be classified as commercial yet unconventional (she especially loves when a novel takes her by surprise), and narrative nonfiction largely by female journalists who specialize in fields such as science, the environment, medicine, and untold women's history. Within children's, Zoe specializes in voice-driven middle grade that leans more literary, and the occasional picture book, especially those that have a strong message. >> More

Abigail Frank, associate agent

Abigail is passionate about stories for young people, especially those that are hilarious, weird, poetic, quietly heartbreaking, and/or swoon-worthy, and she cares about voice, above all. She gravitates towards picture books that feel entirely original, chapter books with big personalities, and novels about unforgettable teens falling in love. She’s actively looking for stories that invite more young readers to recognize themselves in the books they love, and for writing that never underestimates the characters or the audience. >>More

Iwalani Kim, associate agent

Iwalani is seeking adult upmarket and literary fiction and select nonfiction. In fiction, she loves coming-of-age narratives, family dramas, and stories that challenge systems of power. She is often drawn to a strong sense of voice and/or place, whether the storytelling is grounded in realism or engages with a speculative element. She gravitates toward lush prose, wry humor, irreverent characters, and a sense of yearning. Iwalani is also looking for narrative nonfiction such as memoir, cultural histories, and cultural criticism. She would love to work with writers that are engaging with history, design and architecture, sociology, and anthropology, especially from a leftist angle. >>More

Bailey Tamayo, associate agent

Bailey is seeking middle grade, YA, and adult speculative fiction, fantasy, sci fi, horror, and anything in between—especially when the genre is a unique setting for the deeply human stories underneath. She is drawn to poignant coming of age narratives the likes of any given Ghibli film, and her favorite stories are those that are gently heartbreaking, hopeful, or (ideally) both. She enjoys dry humor, lyrical prose, lovable and complex characters, and rich worldbuilding, and she is eager to advocate for underrepresented authors. >>More

Madeline wallace, associate agent

Madeline is seeking literary and upmarket fiction, as well as select narrative nonfiction and memoir. She is committed to advocating for voices that have been underrepresented in publishing. In fiction, Madeline loves to lose herself in unputdownable stories with characters that transcend the page. More specifically, she would love to receive coming-of-age novels from adult perspectives, especially ones that turn tropes on their heads and offer engrossing, offbeat perspectives. In the nonfiction space, she is hoping for books that explore pop culture, examining celebrity and fandom through a critical lens. >>More

Hannah Strouth, associate agent

Hannah is looking for literary and upmarket fiction, as well as select nonfiction. In fiction, she gravitates toward nuanced and compelling work that digs deep into a wide range of emotions. She’s automatically drawn to stories that help discover and explore new aspects about people, the way we (dis)connect, what haunts us (literally and metaphorically) and how we confront it, and stories of resiliency. In nonfiction, whether it’s pop culture, narrative, self-help, or memoir, she loves anything that teaches her how to be a better human or look at the world through a fresh lens. Across the board, she’s always looking for diverse voices and experiences. >>More
